Mother Mary, star mondiale della musica pop, si prepara a un ritorno sulle scene dopo essersi presa una pausa in seguito a un incidente sul palco. Durante le ultime prove in costume, Mother Mary ha una crisi di panico e si dilegua. Raggiunge la provincia inglese per riunirsi alla stilista Sam Anselm, sua ex migliore amica e collaboratrice con la quale non ha più rapporti da tempo. A soli tre giorni dallo spettacolo, Sam accetta a malincuore di disegnare un abito per lei. La tensione sale mentre i due lavorano nel fienile trasformato in atelier di Sam, e Mary fatica a esprimere la sua visione per quanto riguarda l'abito di scena. Sam la interroga sulla performance imminente e sull'incidente, che alcuni sospettano sia stato un tentativo di suicidio.
